The award recognises the environmental management of their business. Being awarded ISO 14001 accreditation demonstrates the company’s keen awareness of environmental impacts and ensures full compliance with all environmental legislation currently in place.

Park House Healthcare design, manufacture and supply pressure are care equipment and specialist beds to the NHS and Community sectors, from their corporate head quarters based near Birkenshaw. Having won numerous industry awards for outstanding achievement and innovation, environmental awareness has been at the heart of all business processes.

In aspiring to be awarded the ISO 14001 accreditation, a ‘Green Team’ was developed with the view to improving the company’s environmental awareness. The team encompassed staff from all areas of the business, joining forces to identify environmental objectives and implement actions to ultimately reduce the company’s carbon footprint. These objectives included the identification of aspects of the business that impact on the environment and the consideration of environmental issues and laws, relevant to the business operation.

ISO 14001 is an internationally recognised standard that ensures an effective environmental management system is in place within a working environment. The standard contains general requirements in relation to environmental policies, which require planning, implementation and operation, in order to maintain a high level of efficiency and awareness.

Businesses that carry the ISO 14001 accreditation are expected to demonstrate continued commitment to environmental awareness, through regular auditing and remedial action, maintained with systematic management reviews to ensure continual improvement.

Roy Smith, Environmental Manager, led the Green Team and has played an integral role in implementing an effective Environmental Management System at Park House Healthcare.

“The impact businesses have on the environment is an increasingly important issue across the globe, with ongoing pressure to minimize our individual impact, it is essential that we demonstrate a responsible attitude to reducing our carbon footprint and this matter remains at the forefront of all business operations and is a key policy for the future.”
